Dear Dr Lily Wong

Looking back on my first commencement in Sep 2002 at Advent Links-SAUC, as a student enquiring knowledge and getting myself equipped with the Early Childhood Education, is a treasure of memories!

To me, when I first arrived at Advent Links, I was quite inadequate. Having to complete assignment has not been easy. It’s been Primal Fear, a Reversal of Fortune, and by the end of exams, I felt relieved! A timid petite lady like me to conduct public speaking has been like the Interview with the Vampire. At the presentation, I can feel my legs wobbly sideways.

Honestly speaking, Advent Links has provided a comprehensive package that is specially tailored to meet everything a trainee teacher ought to know. The reading up on theories is valued as an important tool and comes in handy in our daily practical lives. To be equipped in the knowledge and applying the approaches introduced has motivated and helped me relate to the stakeholders in a skilful manner.

Higher education across the country is the envy of the world, and it should be especially in the era of this period of significant change. In many of the modules conducted, the cohort was asked to produce research that makes an impact on the world and a workforce able to improve the quality of their own lives and of our communities most of the time.

Not only has the Diploma in Pre-school Education: Teaching and leadership (DPTL) at Advent Links benefited me in my theories, I have also acquired much confidence through the seasonal presentation that has helped to overcome my fear in stage fright. Knowing that we are not only trained to serve the community, we are also to set ourselves as courageous linguists.

What Advent Links would be in the future depends on her students as living testimony to our alma mater. New students would love to hear from the graduates’ experiences and be encouraged by them to strive and complete confidently in due course.

And, like some, I was changed because I have learnt a lot of practical lessons from our lecturers’ sharing. It has helped me relate and manage situations in a astute manner as a leader, about people, and most of all, about myself. I carry with me wonderful memories of good times and great friends. I take pride with you in this as well.

Graduation is a time for remembrance. It is a day for good wishes, good friends, and goodbyes. Three years have soon passed, Advent Links has brought out the best in me as a knowledgeable, adaptable and well-equipped in my inter and intrapersonal skills.

Though we cannot fully anticipate what challenges and opportunities lay ahead. We have learnt from Dr Lily Wong’s frequent quote “Just do your best and God will take care of the rest.”

We were taught to equip ourselves to use our intellectual curiosity and creativity – to solve problems, to develop solutions, to create new opportunities for others and ourselves because we are educators. Now, we can confidently impact and make a difference in the lives of the children who are under our charge.

My sincere appreciation and thanksgiving to God for Dr Lily Wong, who has diligently tailored the modules relevant to the students’ needs. With special thanks to all my patient lecturers including Ms Low Hwee Ling (placement supervisor) and the staff of Advent Links-SAUC for their kind assistance when I was in doubt.

May God’s blessings be showered upon all of you as you have been a great light for others to follow.

Love & blessings,

My three years at SAUC Advent Links had taught me discipline, time management and in depth knowledge of research. My journey of learning does not end here. Advent Links will be my partner hand in hand for my future learning as I aspire to do my Masters soon. In my opinion, Advent Links - SAUC is the national leader in early childhood training.

A special thanks to Dr. Lily Wong & her team of qualified trainers. It has been a 3 years well spent in Advent Links. The DPTL not only helps me to be a better administrator & teachers but a better wife & mom. My team of teachers has benefited a lot from Advent Links too!

I have benefited from the course. Learn more about early childhood education and especially early intervention for young children which helps me to be more aware of the children whom we are in contact daily.
Helps me to convince teachers and parents with what I have learnt especially in planning curriculum.

Advent Links’ demands are very high but I think the quality is there. I know that my degree is worth something in the industry.

Very happy and satisfy with the course.
I am glad that I learn a lot from this course and will strongly recommend to those who are serious in running a child development business.

It definitely improves my service with children. Now when I do my visitation to family I am better equipped in diagnosing children’s need and channel them to the right services to help them for examples children with dyslexia & autism. It helps me to be a better child guidance and guide them appropriately, nipping the bud of delinquency and developing them to their fullest potential and to be an answer to parents to help them understand their children & vice versa.

"I was one of the students who attended the Diploma in Preschool Educaiton (Leadership) course at Advent Links-SAUC from march 17, 2003 - June 30, 2004, Time: 3:00 - 6:00pm.

Now that the course was finally over, I take the opportunity to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the fine lecturers for guiding me through all assignments, hopefully to securing at least a credible grade. On reflecting, I really praise them as exemplary of caring, approachable, and dedicated teachers who had spent much time after lectures helping us in the learning process. On one particular occasion when I was presented with a set of questions on topics that was beyond my comprehension, let alone the answers I had to give, I had wanted to give up the exercise, but decided to stay on with the course because of their constant help and encouragement. I eventually scored a satisfactory rating for the assignment.

Truly, I would not have finished all my exercises if it had not been for their personal effort and example that inspired me to continue and focus on my study, and successfully complete the whole course. I have no hesitation in recommending anyone to be under their charge at Advent Links."

"The supervisor (Ms Kim) was very helpful during my leadership placement. She gave the information that I needed to complete the Administrator Report. Ms Kim was willing to spend time to discuss the centre's procedures and other matters. She was quite open to take my recommendation to improve the quality of the centre too. However, lots of information was not accessible because my first week of the leadership placement was her last week at the centre. Hence, I had to gather all the relevant information for the Administrator Report during the first week of my placement

The second week of my placement for leadership became even tougher as there was no one to replace Ms Kim's place.Hence, I had to be more observant and independent in seeing the centre's operation without a supervisor. Teacher Laili is the senior Teacher who was given the responsibility to look after the centre during this interim period. I had a tough time seeing things from a supervisor's perspective. However the teachers were quite cooperative with me during my placement.

The seven and half days of my leadership placement have given me an opportunity to learn some of the leadership and supervision skills. However, I believe I do need more exposure through hands on experiences for my future career development. I believe that in future I can be a good leader and able to operate a centre on my own. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Advent Links-SAUC for giving me the exposure and knowledge during my Graduate Diploma course."
